Enthusiastic pursuit of adventures and misadventures
Review by Margaret Austin 17th Apr 2017
To a delighted audience of mostly children, this original take on a well-loved story takes the stage at the Tararua Tramping Club.
Playwright Rob Ormsby and Director Gavin Rutherford, together with cast members Katja Romanski, Catriona Tipene and Sam Irwin, contrive action and dialogue that both entertain and involve.
Hog and Snort and Rupert, intent on escaping ‘the drudgery of the sty’, embark on a journey intended to culminate in living happily ever after on a beach. The adventures and misadventures that intervene form the story line.
We have song and dance, audience participation – ‘Look behind you’ always goes down well – references to DOC, and even a morepork.
Staging uses the entire hall, with characters using all available entrances.
The cast performs with the enthusiasm this sort of theatre demands.
