Adam Macaulay worked as an independent writer and director in Sydney and other centres in NSW before training formally as a stage director at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. After returning to the east coast of Australia he worked as a dramaturg and director for the Australian National Playwrights Centre, including a stint at Sydney Theatre Company as dramaturg for the Young Playwright of the Year awards. He has also worked professionally as a production manager, concert producer, stage director and as teacher of acting, production and direction. He still works occasionally as a production consultant, a writing coach, dialogue coach and dramaturg and combines this with his full-time position at RNZ (Radio New Zealand), formerly as Executive Producer of Audio Drama and now as a senior producer and Commissioning Editor for drama, book readings, satire, comedy and kid’s stuff. He is also consultant director/producer at creative support outfit Shortwood Creative in Wellington.
