Deborah Pope trained in circus and theatre in Paris and London.

She has worked with premier visual, circus, opera and theatre companies including Circus OZ, The Royal Opera, The RSC, WOW, The MTC and her company No Ordinary Angels’ work includes Munich, Melbourne, Cadiz, Sao Sebastien, Edinburgh , London and New Zealand International Arts Festivals. Deborah has choreographed for film, television, opera and theatre and has won 3 prizes including Best Director, Les Jeune Talent du Cirque, Paris, 2004.

Since returning to New Zealand 15 years ago, Deborah’s company Awkward Productions created and produced 9 Wellington Circus Festival, Adagio, Adagio Xmas , Grimace ,The Boulevard of Broken Dreams and the Circus Proms, with Wellington Vector Orchestra.

As part of The Wellington Circus Trust, she helped create The Circus Hub and was its Director for 5 years and in 2014-2019, Deborah designed and delivered New Zealand’s first Circus / Dance Degree at Whitireia Polytechnic, Wellington.

Deborah continues to advocate, mentor and develop work and artists in New Zealand.
